The Women's and Girls' 2009 season begins this Sunday - 3rd May.
The Women's side play their first ECB Women's County Championship - Division 5 South & West match of the season.The game v. Oxfordshire will be played at Wem C.C. starting at 11am.
The U13s have a friendly game away versus Herefordshire.
The U13 league campaign begins the next day, Monday 4th May, with an away fixture v. Cheshire at Alvanley C.C., starting at 2pm. This will be the first time that a women's or girls' team from the two counties have played one another.
On Monday 4th May there is also an U15 league fixture, at Bishop Castle C.C., to begin at 1pm, v. Herefordshire.
The U15 team then have a fixture v. Staffordshire on the following Sunday, 10th May, to be played at Wellington C.C., starting at 2pm.

As some of you know already, the county presentation/AGM is being held on Friday 21st November at Wellington Cricket Club, 6.30 for a 7pm start. All players and supporters of women's and girls' cricket in Shropshire are invited. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please let them know and ask them in turn to let me know if they will be attending as requested below.
There will be a presentation of trophies and certificates as appropriate for all County age groups - women and girls. The bar will be open and there will be a finger buffet for all.
There will be a charge of £2 for adults, all juniors free. Please would you let me know if you _*will/will not*_ be attending by Tuesday, 18th November.
Have you got a talent we don't know about? Can you spare a minute or two of your time? Would you like to score, help with fundraising, be a member of the committee? If you think you could help us, then you probably can! Below is an outline of some of the Committee's roles if these should interest you. However we are looking for help in a number of other ways too. Please note that a manager's workload has been reduced for the forthcoming season.
To enable the Shropshire Womens and Girls Cricket Committee to continue pursuing its goal of increasing opportunities for girls and women to participate in cricket in
Treasurer
Purpose: To manage a small sponsorship income account and ensure that funds and assets are appropriately managed.
Specific responsibilities
- To ensure that Committee funds are used according to Committee Rules and constitution, and always in the best interests of the members.
- By managing Committee funds, ensure that finances are available as a first priority to meet essential expenditure (for example kit purchase).
- To keep accurate records of all collection, use and disposal of Committee funds and assets to a standard deemed acceptable to an independent auditor.
- To ensure that Committee Accounts are subjected to an annual audit and report from a suitable qualified independent advisor.
- To reconcile bank statements and investigate any discrepancies, reporting to the members. Make a report to the members at the AGM.
- To take cash to the bank and deposit it in the Committee Bank Account.
Secretary
Purpose: To ensure the smooth running of the Club by providing overall organisation and ensuring that the Club Rules are applied.
Specific responsibilities
- Present at eight meetings per annum. Provide minute taking services at these meetings and circulate these minutes and dates of meeting to committee members.
- Provide administrative support to the Chair
- Along with the Chair sets agenda of Committee Meetings such as the AGM.
Chair
Purpose: To lead the committee through the business of planning, implementing, and evaluating of the Shropshire Women’s Committee Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Makes arrangements for meeting and notifies secretary of date, time and place of meeting.
- Calls meeting to order.
- Prepares agenda for meeting.
- Delegates responsibilities to committee members.
- Liases with the
- Involves all members in the decision making.
- Reports work of committee to the Shropshire Cricket Board and Cricket Development Manager.
Liaise with County board fixtures organiser regarding dates for matches.
Liaise with players and parent regarding matches and availability.
Press Officer
To support the committees goal of increasing opportunities to particpate in womens/girls cricket by raising awareness of events and opportunities in the local press.
Sponsorship Officer
Investigate potential income generating opportunities through sponsorship
Other Voting Members
Parental Representatives from each age group
Coaches ( two from those coaches involved in the winter nets and summer programme)
Club Representatives- if there is sufficient interest a sub committee would be represented on and report to the committee.
*All members of the committee must attend 50% of the scheduled eight meetings per annum – this is an item that will be voted on at the forthcoming AGM.

WOULD GIRLS SELECTED TO PLAY FOR A TEAM PLEASE NOTIFY THE MANAGER IF THEY FIND THEY CANNOT PLAY BY ACTUALLY TALKING TO THE MANAGER AND NOT VIA TEXT, VOICE MAIL OR EMAIL ALONE. There is no guarantee that such a message will reach the Manager in good time nor at all and this could lead to the strength of the team being compromised as it makes it difficult and/ impossible to find a replacement in time.

Well done to the Women's team who tied with Leicestershire in the final game of their season on Sunday 20th July. Both sides finished on 172 in this closely contested game Top scorer was Meg Ballment who finished on 74.
The U15 girls won in another close game played against Herefordshire yesterday - Tuesday 22nd July, with the winning runs coming on the last ball of the 34th over of a 35 over game. Well done to all girls in the team in a good alround performance. Please see play-cricket for the full scorecard. This is the first time that Shropshire have beaten Herefordshire at this age group.

We do have a back up date of the 30th June, but as this is a busy time, I hope that most of you will be available for the 18th. The home fixture has been re arranged for Thursday 10th July, venue TBC.

Summer coaching sessions will continue at Wrekin College, but only for the U15s, U13s and the Development Squads. Sally will be in touch to tell you who needs to attend on which night. It is planned to hold sessions for two different groups once a fortnight. I shall look into an alternative for older players, but as many of you are unable to make it to Wrekin College this may prove to be impossible.
Parents should note that the sessions will run from 6.30 -8pm.

On Sunday 11th May, the U13 Team gained the first victory for a Shropshire Girls' side against a Worcestershire side. Well done girls.
Having won the toss, Shropshire asked Worcestershire to bat. Worcestershire were all out for 50 in the 20th over, with Rachael Howells taking 5 wickets , including a hat-trick(4-2-10-5). Shropshire reached the total in the 17th over for the loss of 5 wickets (Megan Peate 11, Jeska Ward 9).

The weather has got the better of us and we have had to call off the U17 game v. Staffordshire due to be played tomorrow at Bridgnorth. I will let you know when this is rearranged. As in previous years, there will be a charge made to cover the coaches’ expenses and this year it has been set at £3. All squad members are welcome to attend. If you miss the first few nets please check that future dates have remained the same as below.

Welcome everyone to the 2008 Season.
Women and especially the U 17 players should let me know if they are available for each fixture and therefore wish to be considered for the team. We shall give first consideration to those players who have let me know. Those members of the U15 squad that may be considered will be contacted by us.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable summer of cricket both at county and club level. At present we are planning to hold fortnightly nets at Wrekin College on a Tuesday evening. You will be told the exact details before the indoor nets finish.
I should like to take this opportunity to thank Julie Dean for acting as Manager for the U17 fixture at Pershore, Frances Wood for doing likewise for some games once schools have broken up for the summer and Sue Reid for accompanying the U17s as Manager to Taunton.

Please note that the U15 game v. Worcestershire has been re-arranged for Thursday 28th June.
There will be coach travel available for the Women's game v. Leicestershire on the 30th June. We will be picking up in Whitchurch, Shrewsbury and Telford. This will cost £10 per person. We are travelling in a 26 seater and there will be seats available if anyone wants to go along and watch, but please contact me regarding this beforehand just to be certain of a seat. It would be great if we had a number of supporters there. I know that some have planned to travel seperately. I will be in touch about the exact pick up points and times.

Yesterday Shifnal Girls U13 side gave an excellent performance at the regional indoor tournament at Wolverhampton. They were narrowly defeated in the semi final, going out by only 6 runs.

The following girls have been invited to attend a session being run by Jason Weaver, on Friday 9th February, at Wrekin College, 6.30pm start. Cost £5 per girl. The coaching will last for about 50 minutes. This coaching session is for girls' and boys' squads.

Welcome and here is a brief and long overdue update. Please note the new web address.
Winter nets for the County Development, U13s, 15s, 17s and Women's Squads are twelve weeks in to a twenty week programme. The remaining dates for the indoor winter nets are:

U15, U17 and Women's nets 2-4pm
Fixtures for the U13s, 15s and 17s are nearly all arranged and will be posted when they are all in place. We are not allowed by the ECB to make fixtures at all for the U15 and U17 teams on a Sunday. We should be allowed to make some for the U13s on a Sunday. We are only allowed to make a Sunday fixture on one Sunday during the summer for the Women's team.
The Women's Team will be playing friendly fixtures. No dates have been arranged yet, but I am in contact with a number of counties and we are endeavouring to find dates and venues that will suit all parties involved.
Taunton Festivals
U15 Festival Wednesday 15th - Saturday 18th August
We are taking part in the U15 tournament at Taunton again this year. Please note that this year the festival takes place during the school summer holidays. All U15 players (all those eligible by age in the U15 Squad and Development Squad) should note the dates and let Sue know as soon as possible if you think you may not be available. We will be taking some U13 players along too and so U13 Squad players should also check the dates and let Sue Reid or Sally know if they would be unavailable.
The cost of taking part will be approxiametely £100. Girls make their own way to the festival and have shared transport in the past.Some parents stay in the area during the tournament. Sue Reid will approach players with further details in due course.
U17 Festival Wednesday 18th - Saturday 21st July
This year, for the first time ever, we will be taking part in the U17 Festival at Taunton. U15 and U17 squad players please note the dates and let Francis or Sue know if you may be unavailable. Francis will be in touch when more details come to hand. The cost of taking part will also be in the region of £100.

Both of the following cricket clubs have included girls in their junior teams before this year. However they are expanding their girls' only teams in Shifnal's case and running girls only in Shrewsbury's for the first time this year.
Shifnal C.C. is continuing to run all girls teams in a local league. This year they plan to expand this to two all girls teams and one mixed team. Shifnal C.C. are setting up a women's team and anyone interested in joining, whatever your experience, should contact Barbara Morton on 01952 245520. Barbara is also your contact for any girl who would like to play, again please make contact however much or little experience you have.
Shrewsbury C.C. are planning to run a girls team in the local U10 league. Girls can play who are a year older than this. Shrewsbury also plan to run a women's team. Again, whatever you level of experience, please contact myself for the present - Eileen Pritchard on 01952593315. I will add a contact number for someone at the club when I have one to hand. Shrewsbury will be running indoor nets after the February half term, on Sundays for older girls and women and on Wednesday evening for the younger girls. Please phone me for details.
