Honours shared and team selection » Posted on Sat 24/07/10 » Add Comments

Well done to both teams who played Shrewsbury on Thursday 22nd July. Our "A" team won by a small margin and our "B" lost by only a slightly larger difference in score.

Worfield  Girls' "A"  beat Shrewsbury by 7 runs to continue their run of wins.
Shrewsbury 224 for 3, Worfield 231 for 4

The "A" Team narrowly beat Shrewsbury by 7 runs. The final scores being Shrewsbury 224 for 3 and in reply Worfield scored 231 for 4. Harriet Hobbs and Marsha Evenett top scored as a pair with a net score of 12 runs. The bowling was tight alround with the girls conceding only 4 wides and 2 no balls. Lucinda Oliver, Evie Breakwell (1-0-1-1) and Ruby Wentworth all took one wicket, Marsha Evenett bowled a maiden over and Lucy Arnold, Jade Cotham and Jordi Matthews went for just 3 runs each.

Worfield Girls' "B" push Shrewsbury Girls hard, but loose by 16 runs
Shrewsbury 262, Worfield 246 for 1

The "B" team should be especially commended for the manner in which they played. Shrewsbury batted first finishing on 262 for 0 wickets with Worfield only conceding 2 byes and 5 wides and 5 no balls; the bowling figures included Abbey 1 over for 2 runs, Amy 2 overs for 6 and Emily 1 over for 4 runs. When Worfield batted every girl played positively and the calling and running between the wickets was excellent. Abbeygayle Worton captained the team by example, opening with Lydia Jackson, both girls setting the pace and finishing with a net score of 10 runs. Camilla Oliver, Jade Cotham, Megan Picken and Emily Spencer then went on to play in the same manner gradually adding to the total, with the final pair of Eleanor Rockett and Amy Ruffell-Hazell adding a very creditable 16 to the score. Worfield's final score being 246 for 1 wicket.

Match Cancelled » Posted on Thu 15/07/10 » Add Comments

Sorry girls- we were hoping that the weather might hold off, but it started to ran at 5pm at Worfield and have decided that it is best to call the game off this evening's now - especially as the forecast is so poor for the evening.

We shall be playing at least one game against Quatt girls on Sunday 25th July at Worfield - 9.30 for a 10 am start. I have enough girls to make more than one team at the moment and if I get enough girls available we will be able to fulfill both fixtures against Quatt that morning and will try to get a game or two against another team as we now have one game outstanding with Shifnal and Shrewsbury. So please get back to me about your availability for the 25th if you haven't already. I shall post the teams just as soon as I get all of the replies in. Thank you to those who have let me know already.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tracey and George Breakwell and Colin who would have been acting as Manager/scorer and Coach and umpire this evening.

All girls who would have been playing have been notified now by phone of the cancellation.

Worfield girls completed the double against Wellington this week with a 70 run victory, although Wellington restricted the run rate a little more this week for some pairings and took two more wickets with Worfield taking two less wickets this week. Please note that this an 8-a-side game at Shifnal's request. Please be at Worfield by 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

The match v. Shrewsbury is being re-arranged for a later date.

I had asked you to give me your availability details for the re-arranged game against St Georges, however, they have had to withdraw from the league as they are struggling to get enough girls to make a team.

We should be playing Quatt at the end of July and beginning of August, but as this would be in a holiday fortnight. we are trying to re-arrange these to take place on Sunday 25th July and will probably be played at Quatt CC.  Please would you ALL let me know whether or not that you would be available for the 25th and it would help me a lot if you could let me know by Wednesday evening. Thank you.

Good luck for this week's game - I am sorry that I will be unable to be there- I also cannot be at the training evening on Friday, but will be in touch re team selection for the matches the following week.

Result and next weeks team selection » Posted on Sun 27/06/10 » Add Comments

Well done to both of our teams this week for providing an entertaining game. The A team came out as winners of the match with a total of 252 runs with the B team finishing on 208. The deciding factors were runs scored and wickets taken by the A team, however, the B team would have forced a much closer result if they could have limited the number of wides they gave away.
This was an excellent performance by all of the players, the more experienced players showing commendable consideration to those with less experience - who all performed very well.

The A team's match has had to be postponed this week as there is an U13 county match on Thursday and a number of girls have other commitments on the night too-this will be re-arranged.

The B Team has a home fixture against Wellington this Thursday. The match is due to start at 6.30pm, so please be at Worfield for 6 pm. The team is listed below and I shall again put an * after your name as I hear from you. Would the reserves check with me on Tuesday if I haven't spoken to you by then regarding the need for you to play.

WOULD GIRLS SELECTED TO PLAY FOR A TEAM PLEASE NOTIFY THE MANAGER IF THEY FIND THEY CANNOT PLAY BY ACTUALLY TALKING TO THE MANAGER AND NOT VIA TEXT, VOICE MAIL OR EMAIL ALONE. There is no guarantee that such a message will reach the Manager in good time nor at all and this could lead to the strength of the team being compromised as it makes it difficult and/ impossible to find a replacement in time.

Summer Outdoor Nets » Posted on Sun 20/04/08 » Add Comments

Shropshire Girls’ Outdoor Nets 2008

This summer we will be holding outdoor nets at Wrekin College on the dates listed below. Please note that the responsibility for checking if nets are on rests with you – a late decision may be made and also we cannot be sure who will be attending each week and therefore phoning everyone would not be appropriate. Do not presume they are on or off because of the weather conditions local to you. Whenever possible, I will put an announcement on the website.

You could also try phoning Sally or myself. If I have your email address (please check that I do), I will try to email everyone to confirm that week’s details, but this will probably only occur if there is a clear decision to make the night before.

As in previous years, there will be a charge made to cover the coaches’ expenses and this year it has been set at £3. All squad members are welcome to attend. If you miss the first few nets please check that future dates have remained the same as below.

The dates of the nets are:

Tuesdays, 29th April, the 13th and 27th May, 3rd and 17th June and 8th July.

Nets will begin at 6.30pm and finish at 7.30/8pm. If you are being dropped off, please check what the finishing time is before the person dropping you off leaves.

Ammendment to dates » Posted on Tue 15/04/08 » Add Comments

The U15s should note the change of date for their away fixture v. Worcestershire. This should and now does read Thursday 22nd  May.

U17s please note that your fixture next week - Tuesday 22nd April, has had to be postponed because of the lack of players. Thank you to all those players who gave me plenty of notice. However, could you please try as far as is possible, to ensure that you are available when you have indicated that you will be for future fixtures and let me know as soon as you can if you have a problem. Thank you.

Fixture list » Posted on Fri 04/04/08 » Add Comments

Welcome everyone to the 2008 Season.

Women and especially the U 17 players should let me know if they are available for each fixture and therefore wish to be considered for the team. We shall give first consideration to those players who have let me know. Those members of the U15 squad that may be considered will be contacted by us.

I hope that you all have an enjoyable summer of cricket both at county and club level. At present we are planning to hold fortnightly nets at Wrekin College on a Tuesday evening. You will be told the exact details before the indoor nets finish.

I should like to take this opportunity to thank Julie Dean for acting as Manager for the U17 fixture at Pershore, Frances Wood for doing likewise for some games once schools have broken up for the summer and Sue Reid for accompanying the U17s as Manager to Taunton.

Thank you to all of you for your hard work over the winter, i.e. coaches, players, parents, guardians and last, but not least, Sally.

Re-aranged Women's fixture » Posted on Sat 07/07/07 » Add Comments

The Women's fixture v. Leicestershire(Derby Road Playing Fields, Loughborough) that had to be called off last week has been re-arranged for Saturday 8th September. I would be grateful if any of the Women's, U17 and U15 squad players who see this and know they will be available were to let me know asap. I will be phoning around in the near future too.

Re-arranged fixtures » Posted on Mon 02/07/07 » Add Comments

Please check the news item below for dates of fixtures as some have changed as games have been postponed or cancelled due to the poor weather. It looks very unlikely that the U15 fixture v. Worcestershire can be re-arranged again because the fixture list has become too congested.

U15 Worcestershire fixture called off » Posted on Thu 28/06/07 » Add Comments

The U15 fixture v. Worcestershire has been called off due to the rain we have had. We are trying to re-arrange this fixture - yet again, but this may not be possible. Sue will let players know if we are successful - watch this space.
