Next Sunday, 8th May sees Worfield girls' season get underway with their first match in the Worcestershire Girls U15 League. They have a home fixture v Himley, due to start at 10am. Players are asked to be at Worfield for 9am, giving them the time they need to warm up properly. The team selected to play are: Lucy Arnold (Captain)* Jordi Matthews (Vice Captain)* Evie Breakwell * Jess Evans* Marsha Evenett* Grace Smith Injured Emma Hudson * Amy Ruffell-Hazell Lucinda Oliver* Lucy Swancott*Reserves: Ruby Wentworth NAAnnmarie Peerless* Players are reminded that this is a hard ball game and so should bring along any pads and a helmet along with their usual kit if they have them. Please wear whites to play the game if you have them. As has been the practice in the past, I will add an * as players confirm their availability. thank you to all those players who have filled in their availability for the next few weeks or the whole season. The fixtures arranged to date are as follows: U15 Team, Worcestershire Girls' U15 League Sunday 8th May, v Himley, home, 10am Monday 16th May, v Penn, home, 6.30pm Sunday 22nd May, v Belbroughton, home, 10am Tuesday 28th June, v Oldswinford, home, 6.30pm Monday 4th July, v Belbroughton, away, 6.30pm Wed 13th July, v Oldswinford, away, 6.30pm Tues 19th July, v Penn, away, 6/6.30pm TBC v Himley, away. U13 Shropshire Central League All games scheduled to be played on a Thursday, but may be played on another day of the week if re arranged. 26th May v Welligton, away 9th June v Shifnal 16th June v Quatt, to be re arranged because both clubs' senior teams are involved in cup games that mean their grounds are not available. 23rd June Free week 30th June v St Georges, home 7th July v Shrewsbury, home 14th July v Madeley, away Worfield 6-a-side Tournament, Sunday 17th July All U13 girls should try to keep this date free as we would like to enter two Worfield teams in to this tournament. We have entered the Lady Taverner's U15 competition and may have a bye in the county semi-final. I shall advise you of our position in this competition. The U13 county representatives will be found as a result of a match between the winners of the central league v the club that perform best in the festivals to be held between clubs in the north of the county- held in the second half of July. An U11 festival is planned for this summer, with the date and venue yet to be decided. Good luck to all of the teams. I hope all of the girls have an enjoyable summer of cricket, both for the club in a girls' or mixed team and for county teams where applicable.
Worfield Women's team

I had planned to organise a friendly game or two for those women who have expressed a wish to play some cricket, during the school holidays - however many people have understandably been away at various times and this hasn't been feasible. Therefore, I am considering arranging some winter nets for women and older girls to take place after Christmas if there is enough support for this and then we would be in a good position to play games as soon as the season starts. I know that the ECB is considering arranging a "league" for women's teams that wish to play friendly games only and I think that is a very good place for us to start - if this does not come to fruition, I could find some opponents for friendly games anyway. If this is to work a number of things have to come together - once I have found out that there is support for this, I would advise those who are interested of possible venues, days and cost. Just as a suggestion at this early stage, I would like your opinions on:

Age guide line, eg 14 years and above with no top age exclusion.
Inclusive of all abilities and experience.
Would an evening or Sunday be best for net practice?
Are there coaches, scorers or possible managers out there who would like to get involved? We shall need some more of these to run the girls' teams next year too? If you would like to be involved in any of these capacities, would you like the opportunity to get some training to do so, or would you like to have some advice on what these roles might involve?

If you have any suggestions or questions about the above item please get in touch. This venture is open to any women and girls - you do not have to have a connection with Worfield Cricket Club at present to be included.Eileen0195259331507886281864eileenpritchard@shropshirecricket.co.uk

On Sunday12th September, we will be playing in a play-off tournament at Allscott Cricket Club which will decide who are the County U13 winners for 2010. We need to be there BY 9.15 as the first game will get underway at 10am. The other teams involved are Quatt, Wem and Woore - these last two teams came out as the top two from the three festivals played in the north of the county - they did this instead of playing in a league as we did. The girls selected to play are listed below and I need to have replies from you whether OR not you are available. We will play three games where 8 girls will be selected to bat and I hope that we will be allowed to change those fielding - all girls will be guaranteed to bat in at least one game. If you have not been selected to play, you are very welcome to come along and support thoseplaying.PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE THREE GAMES AND BECAUSE OF THIS, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT WE SHOULD COMPLETE THE GAMES AT ABOUT 2.45PM. I do not know whether the girls need to take food and drink with them as yet and will let you know in due course.
Unfortunately we have to withdraw from tomorrow's competiton at Moseley. Some girls are unavoidably unable to play. I would like to say a big thank you to ALL of the eight girls and their parents who had said they could play at such short notice and also to Steve Pitt who would have been the team's coach tomorrow. I fully understand why each of the girls who couldn't make it (there are 16 of you ) have had the problems they have had- some are simply elsewhere- we have had a wonderful summer - the cricket has been played in a positive and supportive manner and I hope you have all enjoyed your cricket and your involvement with Worfield as much as I have. As mentioned before, we do have some games yet to play. I think that we will try to play these after the bank holiday and I will be in touch with you all about this.Eileen

Thank you to all 14 girls who turned up for our fixture away at Shifnal last Friday. Unfortunately, a couple of the Shifnal girls let their side down late in the day and hence when we arrived they only had 4 girls. Our "A" team have been awarded this fixture and we shall try to rearrange a game for the"B" team in a couple of week's time. We also have two outstanding fixtures to play against Madeley who have been struggling to get enough players during the factory fortnight holiday HENCE WE HAVE NO GAMES THIS THURSDAY.So we divided the girls in to two teams and had a mixed 9 a side game that was hotly contested by both sides, made more difficult by the rain during much of the second innings. Well done everyone and thank you to Jayne Arnold for scoring, Nigel Matthews for holding the umbrella and Colin for umpiring . Eileen

Well done to both teams who played Shrewsbury on Thursday 22nd July. Our "A" team won by a small margin and our "B" lost by only a slightly larger difference in score. Worfield Girls' "A" beat Shrewsbury by 7 runs to continue their run of wins.
Sorry girls- we were hoping that the weather might hold off, but it started to ran at 5pm at Worfield and have decided that it is best to call the game off this evening's now - especially as the forecast is so poor for the evening. We shall be playing at least one game against Quatt girls on Sunday 25th July at Worfield - 9.30 for a 10 am start. I have enough girls to make more than one team at the moment and if I get enough girls available we will be able to fulfill both fixtures against Quatt that morning and will try to get a game or two against another team as we now have one game outstanding with Shifnal and Shrewsbury. So please get back to me about your availability for the 25th if you haven't already. I shall post the teams just as soon as I get all of the replies in. Thank you to those who have let me know already.I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tracey and George Breakwell and Colin who would have been acting as Manager/scorer and Coach and umpire this evening. All girls who would have been playing have been notified now by phone of the cancellation.Eileen01952593315Mob: 07886281864eileenpritchard@shropshirecricket.co.uk

Worfield girls completed the double against Wellington this week with a 70 run victory, although Wellington restricted the run rate a little more this week for some pairings and took two more wickets with Worfield taking two less wickets this week. Well done everyone this game was once again played in a competitive, yet friendly manner.

Our last pair, Emma Hudson and Grace Smith scored 29 runs and our opening pair, Lucy Arnold and Jordi Matthews, scored a net total of 21 runs for the loss of one wicket. Harriet Hobbs and Marsha Evenett scored a valuable 13 runs.

For Wellington, Sarah bowled 2overs for 2 runs taking 1 wicket and was their top scorer on 5 runs; Molly Clarke bowled 2 overs for 4 runs, taking 1 wicket.

WOULD THOSE WITH A * AFTER THEIR NAME STILL REPLY TO CONFIRM THEIR AVAILABILITY (except for Jade - I have spoken to your mother already)- I spoke to you on Friday, but would welcome a confirmation from a parent/guardian. Thank you. I will place a # after your name once you have confirmed.

Reserves:
Sophie Blakstad
Hannah Blackstad
Emily Spencer*#

Please note that this an 8-a-side game at Shifnal's request. Please be at Worfield by 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

The match v. Shrewsbury is being re-arranged for a later date.

I had asked you to give me your availability details for the re-arranged game against St Georges, however, they have had to withdraw from the league as they are struggling to get enough girls to make a team.

We should be playing Quatt at the end of July and beginning of August, but as this would be in a holiday fortnight. we are trying to re-arrange these to take place on Sunday 25th July and will probably be played at Quatt CC. Please would you ALL let me know whether or not that you would be available for the 25th and it would help me a lot if you could let me know by Wednesday evening. Thank you.

Good luck for this week's game - I am sorry that I will be unable to be there- I also cannot be at the training evening on Friday, but will be in touch re team selection for the matches the following week.

Well done to both of our teams this week for providing an entertaining game. The A team came out as winners of the match with a total of 252 runs with the B team finishing on 208. The deciding factors were runs scored and wickets taken by the A team, however, the B team would have forced a much closer result if they could have limited the number of wides they gave away. This was an excellent performance by all of the players, the more experienced players showing commendable consideration to those with less experience - who all performed very well. The A team's match has had to be postponed this week as there is an U13 county match on Thursday and a number of girls have other commitments on the night too-this will be re-arranged.The B Team has a home fixture against Wellington this Thursday. The match is due to start at 6.30pm, so please be at Worfield for 6 pm. The team is listed below and I shall again put an * after your name as I hear from you. Would the reserves check with me on Tuesday if I haven't spoken to you by then regarding the need for you to play.Worfield Team v. WellingtonEvie Breakwell (Captain)*NALucinda Oliver (V.
